Kapiti Mana Enduro - The Derek Wootton Trophy

It is time again for the Kapiti Mana Enduro Race!

So far all uniform sections and CIB squads from within the Porirua Station are interested and the rivalry and associated bad behaviour has begun.  Which is all good.

The emphasis of this event is a good day out, rather than athletic excellence.

1pm, Tuesday, 27th April 2010.

Where:

Course locations (listed by event) all around RNZPC
Papakowhai Road
Porirua

Porirua Police Station
Ext: 45022

Course Details:

  • RUN    One lap of Aotea Lagoon.  Runner must be 35 years or older, or a Senior Constable or above in rank, exceptions allowed within spirit of the event (upon approval), 500 metres.

  • CYCLE    Because of the changes on the Mana Esplanade, safety is paramount and the cycle route has had to be changed.  There are a number of intersections etc and for this reason the cyclist must become familiar with the course and sign the entry form as being so.
    • COURSE    Start/finish at Aotea Lagoon, Papakowhai Road, Paremata Crescent to the new roundabout on to Paremata Road (SH58). Follow SH58 to the Pauatahanui roundabout; go round the roundabout; return to Joseph Banks Drive, first road on left; cycle to James Cook Drive; left up James Cook Drive into Discovery Drive - left into Spinnaker Drive; right on to Postage Drive to intersection with SH58; left on to SH58 through the Paremata intersection SH1, to the Whitford Brown lights; left hand turn to finish/start line.
  • CANOE    Two laps of Aotea lagoon.  Use only canoes provided, 1 kilometre, carbon fibre paddles allowed. Canoe must be replaced on back of trailer.
  • RUN    Out of lagoon, right onto Whitford Brown, right onto motorway and sticking to the grass heading north towards Paremata Bridge.  Just before pedestrian overbridge, turn right on the grass verge on to Papakowhai Road.  On this road turn right and head back towards Aotea lagoon - 5 kilometres.
  • MOUNTAIN BIKE   Due to residential development, course to be advised – 5 km approx.
  • SWIM    20 lengths of pool.  Must have independent lap counter.   500 metres. Swimmer please estimate time (see entry form).

Schedule:

The order of events is:

·    Race briefing 1300 hours at south end of Aotea Lagoon

  1. Lagoon Run
and then the following three events will start within minutes of each other:
  2. The kayak
this year we have 24 teams competing which means the kayak will need to be run in heats
  3. The cycle will follow the Kayak.
I wish to reinforce the safety aspect of this.  The cycle course is potentially dangerous so there is to be no drafting etc.
  4. The 5km run
  5. The mountain bike - which will be modified if wet.
  6. The swim
will not start until all the other legs are completed and once again this will be done in heats.

We hope to have the prize-giving underway by 1630 hours, pizzas arriving at 1700.

Postponement - the weather forecast is for inclement weather.  It would have to be awful for it to be postponed (wear a thermal); however in the event that this is the correct, safe decision, I will have made the decision made by 0900 on Tuesday morning and emailed to you.

There are two races:

RACE 1

Derek Wootton Trophy

All members must be serving members in the Kapiti Mana Police District or civilian employees working for the Kapiti Mana Police.  See team make up.  If your team not able to meet this criteria please discuss with me.

RACE 2

Porirua Club Shield

Competed for by all other teams that don’t meet the above criteria.

There is a small cost of $5.00 per competitor - $30.00 per team which will go towards a few prizes and food at the after match function.

Competitor Information:

Each event is run as a separate race and we want to capture the individuals' times.

To that end it would assist if you could write your team number on the back of your hand and call it out to the timekeeper as you cross the finishing line.

Click here for a notice to all competitors, containing further information about the competition and listing team names and numbers (received at 23rd February).

Click here to download course details.

Team Make-up:

All teams must consist of 6 members and only one member can compete in one leg.  The composition of teams for the Derek Wootton Trophy, all must come from the same identifiable squad or section. However in the case of CIB squads the Tactics CAT members are available to make up the sixth member of the CCU/West CIB squads.  East CIB can call on one member from Waitangirua Youth Aid Section.

In relation to Paraparaumu, the UB Sections can combine for three teams, CIB another and Youth Aid Community Section and Admin combine for the other team.

Rules:

Consider safe car parking at lagoon and Police College.

Helmets compulsory for cycle legs.  Road rules always to be followed.

Keep safe on the run at all times, watch for oncoming traffic, cars and cyclists..

All competitors are duty bound to go to the assistance of any other competitor in trouble or in need of assistance, especially important on bike and canoe legs.

Prize Giving:

The prize giving will be held in the Loft at the Porirua Station.  Because of the tremendous interest already shown, the Bar/Social Committee is organising an excellent social evening of cheap drink and great music, so plan to come to have a good time.

If not competing put your hand up to work late shift.
