Following the Police Champs each year, a NZ Police team is selected to run at the North Island Cross Country Champs, held at Taupo on the first Saturday in July. Over the years the Police Team has performed with real credit at this event, and it is an excellent opportunity for team members to test themselves in open company.
Further Information
The Police Cross Country Champs are open to all members of the NZ Police, sworn and non-sworn. It is an ideal event for both serious runners, and also for those who are more 'social' or do a bit of running to keep fit.
Staff from stations and areas throughout the country are encouraged to get together and organise a team trip to the event each year. The venues tend to be either parks, or farmland, and vary from year to year, at the discretion of the organiser. This is part of the appeal of cross country running.
There are a range of categories and distances. Open men and veteran men run 9K, open and veteran woman 6K, and there is a draughthorse category of 95kilo and over who run 6K. There is also a team relay section where each runner only has to complete 3K. There are trophies for the category winners, and usually enough spot prizes for everyone.
