Well this years fishing competition certainly lived up to expectations. 31 people on 11 boats and 2 kayaks converged on Lake Monowai last Saturday trying to catch a fish worthy of snaffling the coveted trophy.

The weather played its part and calm conditions saw the lake perfectly set up for it, the only swells were a few egos after they got a fish on board.

A massive thanks to Invercargill Hunting and Fishing and Police sport for supporting the event and also Southland Electronics and Goble Building as well.

Grant Gerken trundled up with a couple of kayaks and ended up getting the biggest fish to take the trophy. It was a real nice brown trout and gutted and gilled it weighed in at 2.70 kg (6 pound).

Another great weekend with a heap of laughs, good banter, a few sob stories about the one that got away and a few tired bodies around on Sunday.

Greg Baird also finally made it onto the water this year and even managed to weigh a decent fish in. Last years demons have now been well and truly put to bed.

Thanks for everyone that came along and helped make it such a good event, see you all again next year.
