The Canterbury Police football team took on a FENZ invitational XI on Sunday October 3rd at Kendall Park in Kaiapoi. This was a game that had previously been postponed due to inclement weather and was for some time also in doubt due to Covid 19 alert level 3 restrictions. Thankfully the rules changed in time and we were able to get a game in on what was a lovely spring day. The match was kindly hosted by Waimak United Football Club.

With the befallen Police Sport Winter games there was a lot of interest from local players to get out on the pitch and Police were subsequently able to field a strong team. FENZ were a competitive side, but ultimately came off second best, losing six goals to one. It is hoped that this match will become a regular fixture on the football calendar with plans already afoot to turn this into a much larger community event.

This match was also the first opportunity to show off our new playing strip which was funded by Police Sport (thank you). A number of other local sponsors also came on board who provided funding assistance to travel to Whangarei for the Winter games and also helped fund some new training jackets for the team. The jackets weren’t required on such a warm day, but will be a much appreciated addition to the team kit during the winter months!

I’d like to thank the following for their ongoing support: if you are able to tag or mention these businesses in any social media posts that would be much appreciated.
