The 2022 Police Sport National Surfing competition was held in Kaikōura on 7 November.  Surfers from around the country competed in eight divisions in some challenging surf conditions at Meatworks, Kaikōura.

With the falling swell on the forecast, it was decided to run the whole event in the one day pushing some of the competitors to surf six heats!  The weather turned it on, and 20-minute heats were run back-to-back for around nine hours culminating in eight 25 minute finals.

The competition was close in all divisions with some technical surfing on display. As with every Police Sport Surfing Nationals the atmosphere was both relaxed and competitive and was as much about the surfing as it was catching up with friends. And the winners were:

  • Novice: Stephen SCOTT
